Meet your Nonna - Julia Basile - hear from the first born Basile sister and her memories and stories from our father, Louie (Luigi) Basile! Meni is Lazio/Rome - The Melting Pot of Italy!

Meet your July Nonna..... from my family to yours......Julia Basile! It was about time we had a Basile represent as a Nonna and we are going to bring you the cuisine from LAZIO -with a focus on street food - and the course that we grew up with in Binghamton, NY is SPEIDIES!
Julia is the oldest daughter of Louie's 4 girls - and the one who still lives in Binghamton, NY. She graduated from Old Dominion University in 1982 and just retired from the Binghamton Post Office where she served over 30 years. The one dish that Julia is always asked to bring is her signature chicken speidies and one of her favorite places to be is in front of a grill. A lifetime fan of the Washington Redskins since the age of 7, Julia is an avid Fantasy Football Manager and is skilled at monitoring games on 3 different devices every football season.
On July 29th Julia is going to share stories of being the first born to Louie and Alice and how Grandma Basile's traditions still make an impact on the Basile family today.
June 24th Dinner Nonno - Vince and Laura Buzzelli
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and Laura was born and raised in Buffalo, New York.
We met in Buffalo while working together, had our first date August 1st, were engaged by the end of August, and married December 5th! Truly love at first sight! We will be celebrating 45 years of marriage this December.
After several work related moves, we ended up raising our three children in Rochester, New York. They currently still reside in Rochester along with our eight grandchildren.
Our Buzzelli family originated in the Abruzzo region of Italy. My grandparents had migrated to and were living in the States and would at times travel back to Italy to visit family. During their last trip to Italy, Italy engaged in World War I. My grandfather had a dual US and Italian citizenship and as a result was drafted into the Italian army. Their visit home to Italy turned out to be for six years and resulted in my father being born in Italy.
While I am of Italian descent, Laura is not. However, Laura is an excellent cook and absolutely loves her time in the kitchen. Laura was quick to pick up and learn many Italian based recipes from my mother, whose family is also of Italian descent. Many people question if Laura is Italian due to her mastery of many Italian recipes. The recipe that we will be sharing is an Easter tradition that dates back as far as I can remember. Easter wasn't Easter without a Ricotta Pie. It was always one of my favorites growing up and truly a tradition as Easter was the only time of year we would have it. Therefore, I hope you enjoy it as I'm sure my mother is looking down at me wondering what is my son thinking serving Ricotta Pie in June!?!?
Laura and I look forward to meeting all of you at the dinner.
Thanks!
Vince Buzzelli
